The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia will gear up its personnel for Christmas Day calling despite the fact that most calls will be dialed direct.
More than 1100 C&P operators statewide, in addition to other personnel will be on duty Christmas Day to handle and assist customers in completing nearly 400,000 phone calls.
Bill Brown, local manager, said that beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, through the 24th and 25th, weekend rates will be in effect. Also holiday rates will be in effect Monday, Dec. 26, and he hopes that persons placing long distance calls will spread them out over this period. Campsites in state parks have closed for the season and will not reopen until next spring. Reservations for cabins and campsites for the spring can be made starting April 3, the commissioner of state parks has announced.
