The Rappahannock High hoopsters found the going rough last week as they headed into the holiday season, dropping three hard fought contests to worthy opponents from Elkton, Madison and Central.

Heartbreaking defeat fell to the struggling Panthers late Friday night as the scrappy Elks pulled out a 6856 win in overtime after the home town boys warded off excessive foul trouble to tie the opposition in the final segment of regulation play.
Although the zealous Rappahannock players nearly outscored the Elks from the floor and won most of the battles under the boards at both ends of the courts, the Panthers committed too many fouls in an effort to maintain ball control.
The Elks were awarded 50 free throws contrasted with only 19 for the Panthers, and the charity shots gave Elkton the edge when the final score was tallied. Elkton picked up 22 points from the foul line while Rappahannock gathered only 12.
Thomas Jett led the Panther offense with 20 points (nine field goals and two free throws) while Danny Jett sparked the defense with 14 rebounds.
Donnie Compton pulled in 13 off the boards while teammate Steve Foster raked in seven rebounds.
