When racing returns to Shenandoah Downs Dec. 26, Elwood Heironimus will retunr to the racing secretary’s post which he held for six years prior to the track’s closing in 1975.
For the past two years Heironimus has served as assistant racing secretary under William Dick at Charles Town, W. Va. The two men will alternate roles as racing secretary and assistant each time racing moves from Shenandoah Downs to Charles Town.
Heironimus has worked in the racing secretary’s office for 14 years. A native Virginian, he has been part of the West Virginia racing industry since the early 1940’s. He is familiar with the racing scene, having begun as a maintenance man and groom, advancing to become an owner and
