Engaged
Mr. and Mrs. Donald L. Glick of Port Republic, Virginia have announced the engagement of their daughter, Karen Elizabeth, to Steven Paul Metzler.
Miss Glick is a graduate of Montevideo High School and is a senior Health and Physical Education major at Bridgewater College. She was recently named to “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.” Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence R. Racer, formerly of Rappahannock, now living in Front Royal, and Rev. John T. Glick of Bridgewater.
Mr. Metzler graduated from Turner Ashby High School and Bridgewater College. He is doing his graduate study in engineering at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. A summer wedding is planned.
Freeman
Services for Lucretia Barbour . Freeman of Rixeyville were held Sunday afternoon at the graveside in the Odd Fellows’ Cemetery at Washington. The Rev. John Frizzell of Annandale conducted the service.
Mrs. Freeman, 50, died Thursday, December 15, 1977, at the University of Virginia Hospital.
Formerly of Washington, she was the daughter of the late John Marshall Barbour and the late Betty Peyton Barbour of Washington.
She is survived by her husband, Robert R. Freeman; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Brooks of Washington, D. C. and Miss Mary Barbour of New York, N. Y.; and two brothers, John Marshall Barbour, Jr. of Washington and James Barbour of Harrisburg, Pa.
Pallbearers were R. V. Snead, Jr., John Turner Dennis, John H. McDevitt III, Edward H. Bailey, Jr., Dr. L. John Turner, Jr., Robert Bailey, B. Waugh Crigler, Edward H. Bailey, Sr. and Dr. John P. Snead IV.
Thomas
Cleveland Franklin Thomas, Jr. of Amissville died December 16, 1977 in a gun accident near Amissville. He was 18, the son of Cleveland F. and Edna Pearl Stringfellow Thomas of Amissville, who survive him.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Carpenter of Rapidan and Alice Pearl Thomas at home; and two brothers, William and Floyd Thomas, both of Amissville.
A funeral service conducted by the Rev. J. S. Stirman was held at the graveside in Hillcrest Memory Gardens near Jeffersonton.
