The ERA supporters are hoping that the General Assembly is tired of the issue and will look favorably at getting it moved to the House floor.
Presently, the amendment must gain the approval of two-thirds of the states’ legislatures by March 1979. Only four more states are needed.
A move is afoot now to extend the deadline for seven more years. If this happens and the 1978 session does not act on ratification then the issue could continue to come back here for seven more sessions.
On Tuesday, many of the legislators hid behind closed doors or protective receptionists to avoid the teams of citizens haunting the halls.
The threat of seven more years of this could be enough to bring everybody out of hiding and into the open on the floors of the two Houses.
