Under the change, if it passes the Assembly, the majority of board members would have to belong to the party controlling the General Assembly. This would mean that Democrats would again gain control of local electoral boards.

State Sen. William Truban (RWoodstock), the Senate minority leader, is fighting this change. He said that the Democrats “would be talking a different” story if they had won the Governor’s race last year.

He also said that if the change were made, problems would arise when one house of the General Assembly was controlled by one party and the other house controlled by another.

He made his remarks in a speech on the floor of the Senate last week. WILL BE ON TIME

John Warren Cooke, speaker of the House of Delegates, has said that the 1978 session of the General Assembly will end on time.
