Allen also commented on the failure of swine producers to maximize their profits. “You’re getting a lot of number three grades instead of number twos and it’s costing you money," he told the audience. By breeding hogs that grade at three instead of one or two, fanners lose between $3 and SS per head. With production of animals that grade at four or utility, the farmer loses even more when compared with the prices for higher grade animals, Allen said. Fours bring S8 to $12 less and utilities S8 to $1$ leu, he concluded.
