Based on Eller’s feeder sale figures for last year, Hereford-Angus crosses were the most popular calves with steers bringing an average of S202.27 per head. Purebred Hereford* went for an average of $190.12 per head. Angus for $198.01 and Charolais crosses for $213.37, Eller reported. He added that 37 per cent of the stock $old last year at feeder sales was crossbred.
In comparison, the difference in prices between breeds was less for stock sold in the spring. HerefordAngus "Black Baldy" crosses sold for an average of $250.42 per head, purebred Herefords for $242.62, Angus for $245.11 and Charolais crosses for $258.38.
