Changes in the 1978 Virginia Point-to-Point ■'Circuit were announced Jan. 27 at the point-to-point seminar sponsored by the Virginia Point-to-Point Advisory Council in Middleburg.

For the first time, riders competing for the gentleman rider-of-the-year award must be amateur riders.

An amateur is considered to be anyone who has never been paid to ride a race, never held a professional license, and does not receive the major portion of his income from race related activities. However, full time students may make their income from race related activities.

Points will be tabulated for all races over fences and riders will sign an affidavit saying they meet the amateur criteria.

The Fairfax Point-to-Point, which begins the season Feb. 18 at Belmont Plantation near Leesburg, has added a Seven Corners owner-rider
