The RCHS Varsity baseball team made a great comeback in an effort to catch Randolph Macon on May 1, but dropped a close game, 9-7.
RMA scored six runs in the first, getting an early lead that pressed the Panthers for action. The rally began in the third as Brooke Miller and Nils Aylor singled back to back. Shortstop Rick Johnson cleaned the bases with a three run home run.
RMA pitcher Blevins was in trouble as Donnie Compton, Roger Jenkins and Gary Settle consecutively singled, then Robert Payne drove Compton in with his single. With Jenkins on third. Settle on second, and Payne on first base, Eddie Carroll singled Jenkins home, but was thrown out by a fielder’s choice, ending the inning with Rappahannock nearly tying Randolph Macon’s early high score.
The final Rappahannock runs were scored in the sixth. Eddie Carroll singled with Tony Wayland following with a triple, batting Carroll in. Wayland came home as Brooke Miller sent one into
