hunter control laws should shake off their disinterest and contact the Board representative from their district. The public hearing may be over but it’s still not too late to act. It’s not too late to act on saving the >nly county-wide summer recreation program for youngsters either but time s getting short. Just a few dedicated volunteers promised to donate their time at the Rappahannock Athletic Vssociation’s meeting on Thursday. Twenty-two adults cannot possibly hope to run a baseball program that drew over 160 boys and girls last year. There are not enough coaches, groundskeepers or equipment managers and no umpires at all!
Where are all the folks who moan about there being nothing for kids to do in Rappahannock County? Where are all the folks who supported the ski area’s proposal for an Alpine slide because it would give young people a place to go and something to do in the summertime?
The RAA’s baseball program that began last year is an opportunity for youngsters to participate in a real sport. Everyone can play—boys and girls from kindergartners to high schoolers at all skill levels.
The RAA has decided to make a last effort at keeping their program alive. It can’t continue with the minimal support it has now. A second organizational meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 15, at the Sperryville fire hall. Any interested volunteer is welcome.
