A new district record was set in the 440 with Jamelte Prudhum running 58.7 sec. Her time easily defeats all competition from the James River District, which she will meet Saturday. The coaches are looking for a win at the state meet in this event.
Laura Tupper assured her teammates that she could fly on the soft rubber track at JMU and fly she did in the 440 relay along with Rhonda Brown, Eleanor Phillips and Natalie Swindler. This team placed 5th overall with their best time of the season, onetenth of a second off the school record.
Dawn Keithly broke out of the pack to lead the first half of the 880 yd. race. At mid point, a Stonewall girl passed her only to have Dawn take up the challenge and regain the lead. It was clear sailing to the finish line until Elkton’s Hawkins nipped her in the last yard. Dawn’s time, however, set a new school record, and she looks forward to a rematch with Hawkins
