The Supervisors voted unanimous approval for the grant application by the Planning Commission. Marshall reported that they should receive word on funding by July 1.
Martha Jones, Criminal Justice Planner for PD 9, reported to the Supervisors on two grant applications under the Planning District’s Criminal Justice Plan that apply to Rappahannock.
The first would cover membership in the Central Shenandoah Police Training Academy and would provide training for county police officers. The grant requires a five per cent cash match that amounts to $52 in local money, according to Jones.
The second grant is for two radios for the Sheriffs Department and money to convert existing radios so the Rappahannock Sheriffs department can communicate with county law enforcement officials in Fauquier. Jones told the Supervisors that this grant also requires a five per cent local match that amounts to $162.50.
Since police training is mandatory, the county “certainly ought to take advantage of only having to pay five per cent of the costs,” commented Sheriff W. A. Buntin. He added that it was necessary to replace the state police radios because the state police were changing to a new system.
The Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the two Criminal Justice Plan grant applications.
Unanimous approval was also given the reappointment of Dave Fannon and Allen Stokes to the county Planning Commission.
