Baldwin added that he’d visited the property and found it suitable for the uses proposed by Mrs. Davis. He also noted that only two opponents to the rezoning had contacted him. “I’d have to vote against any other new business coming in if I had to vote against this,” he concluded.
“I don’t see any sense in rezoning if we can accomodate the intended use with a special permit,” remarked Supervisor Butch Eastham.
“We have provisions for a special use permit. If it takes care of their needs, I don’t see any sense in going any further,” agreed Latham.
Luke then read a previously prepared amendment to the zoning ordinance, granting Mrs. Davis’ request for commercial rezoning. However, Latham moved that the rezoning application be denied. Eastham seconded the motion and H. B. Wood voted with Latham and Eastham to turn down the rezoning proposal.
