Habel
John Woodrow Habel, of Amelia died April 30 in McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond. He was 65, a native of Gloucester County and the son of the late Samuel Tilden and Mary Louise Davis Habel. Mr. Habel was a teacher in Rappahannock County Elementary School and a teacher and principal in Warren County, with combined service of 20 years. He was a veteran of WW II, and director of Camp Skymont at Bentonville for 20 years. He served as deacon of Bentonville Baptist Church and as moderator and clerk of the Shenandoah Baptist Association.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Simmons Habel; two sons, William Hooten of Front Royal and John Woodrow, Jr. of Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. Hunter Chilton of Rome, N.Y. and Mrs. Joseph Leary of Culpeper; and eight grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Louise Hattel of Amelia and Mrs. Richard Clyde Moschier of Richmond and two brothers, Dr. Samuel T. Habel Jr. and the Rev. Nathanial Habel, both of Lynchburg.
A funeral service was held in Amelia conducted by the Rev. Terry Sharp and interment was in Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Amelia County.
