Contracts totaling over $22.4 million have been approved for award by the State Highway and Transportation Commission for plant-mixed blacktop resurfacing and slurry seal treatment on about 1,000 miles of interstate and heavyduty primary and secondary highways throughout the state.
The annual resurfacing program is conducted each year to replace worn surfaces | and to restore skid-resisting qualities to heavily used highways.
In addition to this work, the Virginia Department of Highways has received bids for the first restoration and repaving projects to repair winter damage described as the most extensive in the state highway system’s 60year history. This work is expected to cost an additional $23 million.
