“Is your tax dollar for conservation and environmental improvement being spent wisely?”
This was one of the questions asked by Bill Adams, district conservationist for the Soil Conservation Service, and Tom Eddins, county director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, in complying with the Soil and Water Resources Conservation Act of 1977. At a meeting two weeks ago, Adams and Eddins came armed with a full page of questions to gather public participation in appraising natural resources and developing conservation programs to protect them.
The 1977 Conservation Act calls for local meetings to be held before a comprehensive five-year conservation program is drawn up by the state and submitted to Congress. Concerns expressed at these meetings were to be relayed to Richmond for consideration in developing the conservation program.
