This ridge has been a favorite hiking spot for children in the area for years. As it is away from the main avenues of access to Shenandoah National Park, hikers to the ridge can know they do not add to the congestion on the regular roads or trails of the Park.
It has been gratifying that there is so much interest and assistance from many sources, both official and private, on the issue of the proposed eichange of Park lands. Staff members of a number of Federal agencies as well as private agencies have begun examination of points involved. Senator Harry F. Byrd Jr., who, like his father, has a high interest in Shenandoah National Park, has requested clarification from the National Park Service.
The help and support of Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson, in arranging for a preliminary 30 day extension of time, is much appreciated. To me his prompt response to the concern of many people in Rappahannock County is a reassuring indication that the democratic process between citizens and their elected representative is working.
We have found as we explored this issue that officials and agency staff members are greatly interested in how people in Rappahannock County feel •bout the proposed exdtange. *
