It looks like the Board of Zoning Appeals will have to take Werner Krebser up on the offer he made four months ago and ask the doctor to spearhead a fund drive to raise money for the BZA’s legal fees.
At Thursday's Board meeting, the Rappahannock Supervisors were presented a $4,339 tab for lawyer’s fees from the BZA. They balked at coughing up the money and agreed to pay only $1,800 towards the total. In addition, Commonwealth Attorney George Davis advised the Supervisors that they couldn’t legally pay the full amount.
The issue arose at the finish of a typical summer Supervisors’ meeting that was short, quiet and routine.
“Wait a minute,” interrupted Supervisor Chairman E. P. Luke as Gerk Diane Bruce, in her reading of the monthly accounts, reached the BZA’s bill of $4,339 for attorney’s fees in the DeMent and ski area cases.
