seventh grade teacher Lynne Baines agreed with Nichols’s suggestion. “We have teachers who already do that plus teachers who see parents after school hours,” she noted.
Board member Walter Masterson said he thought teachers should be given an opportunity during the day—instead of after-hours on their own time—to make home visits. Masterson proposed that this be done through scheduling tests so one teacher could watch two classes while the second teacher went out to homes.
Bloomer agreed this was a possibility that the administration could consider. He noted that the coming school year included seven unassigned professional days and said a decision on how best to use these 42 hours would be made after consultation with the building principals.
In other action, the School Board voted unanimously to:
+have the same meeting date—second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 in the winter months and 8 p.m. under daylight savings time—for Board meetings.
