Mrs. Massie thanked the parents for their comments and agreed on the need for better communication between the parents and schools in regard to Title I programs and enrollment.
Summer Reading Program
The School Board got some good news in a report from elementary assistant principal Cheryl Neel. According to Miss Neel, 92 per cent of the children enrolled in the reading program are ahead of the predicted rate of progress. On the basis of testing administered half way through the six weeks summer school, approximately 80 per cent of the students have achieved two-thirds of the total anticipated growth.
Dr. Bloomer noted that only five per cent of the children in the reading program were not meeting or exceeding the expected rate of progress.
In the on-going teacher handbook revisions, the School Board agreed to give written notice of contract renewal to teachers without tenure by April 15. Under the new policy, teachers without
