The fried chicken competed with the pecan pies for first place at the Bicentennial Homecoming Celebration Sunday at the F. T. Valley Baptist Church where “dinner on the grounds” followed the morning service.
Mrs. Lucia Kilby, chairperson of the homecoming committee, welcomed members and visitors and gave a report of the Bicentennial Committee. She introduced the Rev. A. Paul Thompson, a former pastor, who gave a history of the church he has been compiling and which he hopes will be completed by October.
The guest speaker was Dr. James Massey of Richmond who is Director of Division Services, Church-Minister Relations, Virginia Baptist General Board.
Copies of the church deed and early membership lists on display, in addition to minutes of the annual meetings of the Shiloh Baptist Association and photographs of important events created much interest and provided information.
A new sign which had been erected at the church was made possible through the generous contribution of Dr. Walter B. Kilby. Appreciation was expressed for the gift.
