Social security benefits were being paid to residents of Rappahannock, Culpeper and Fauquier counties at the rate of SI.7 million each month beginning in 1978, according to Bruce A. Hundley, social security manager in Culpeper.
Of the 9,600 social security beneficiaries living in the area, 8,500 are receiving retirement and survivors benefits. The other 1,100 are receiving benefits as disabled workers or their dependents.
