Circuit Court Judge Rayner V. Snead announced the appointments to the Rappahannock School Trustee Electoral Board on Wednesday. C. E. “Ned” Johnson of Sperryville was reappointed for a four year term, while Mrs. Christine Johnston of Sperryville and Thomas Granville Eastham of Flint Hill were named to replace John S. Browning and George Muth.
Snead reported that Browning had asked not to be reappointed. Muth was not reappointed because of his “many other civic duties and board memberships,” according to the Judge. “It was considered that he should be spared possible criticism because of any alleged conflict of interest,” Snead wrote in his announcement.
Snead noted that he had received petitions advocating the candidacy of Aubrey North, Mrs. Ruby Cannon and Mrs. Christine Johnston. North declined to accept appointment and Mrs. Cannon had a potential conflict of interest because a member of the School Board belonged to the same real estate firm as her husband, according to Snead.
