For a governing body that takes pride in keeping costs down, the Rappahannock Supervisors sure have a strange way of operating.
At Thursday's Board meeting, they reneged on their commitment to the Board of Zoning Appeals by refusing to disperse the $1,800 that had been previously allocated for payment of legal fees involved in the ski area suit. The Supervisors gave the BZA $1,800 all right but they stuck some strings on that require the first $1,602 to be applied towards attorney’s fees in the DeMent case. They did this after previously indicating that they would pay all legal fees involved in the second suit.
We can only conclude that the Supervisors aren't paying their subordinate Board s legal bills because they want to save the tax payer’s dollars. Then how can they continue, month after month, to hand over thousands of dollars for trash pick-up off the ground without doing anything to clean up this waste of money?
On Thursday, the Supervisors okayed payment of a bill to Community Trash for $1,080 for trash pick-up outside the dumpsters during June. They made the standard noises bemoaning the sloppy habits of county residents
