Sharp Grows

Them Big!

It looks like the Big Apple is in Rappahannock County—not New York. Capt. and Mrs. George Sharp walked away with first place honors and $50 for the biggest apple exhibited at the annual Big Apple Show held last weekend in Winchester.

The Sharps, who operate Mountain Green Orchard outside Washington, Virginia, also won blue ribbons for bushels of mutsu and smoothie golden delicious apples.

In the big apple contest, entries were judged and awarded points for circumference measurement, diameter measurement and weight. The Sharps' first place mutsu apple tallied 4^’/* points while the second place red delicious was close behind with 491 ■> points.
