PE Fuel Rates
Down Slightly
Potomac Edison customers in Virginia will notice a slight decrease in the levelized fuel rate on their electric bills received after July 10.
The reduction of about two mills per kilowatt hour will result in a savings of about SI for each 500 kwh used or about two dollars for 1,000 kwh. If continued throughout the remainder of the year, the lower fuel factor would result, in a reduction in gross annual revenues from the company’s Virginia customers of about $1.11 million.
The lower levelized fuel rate was approved by the State Corporation Commission in an order issued June 29.
Potomac Edison told the SCC at fuel hearings last month that the cost of coal, the primary fuel used for the generation of PE electricity, had not increased at the rate forecast in 1978. The 1978 forecast was the basis for the levelized fuel rate for the first six months of this year. Principal reasons for coal cost lower than the forecast included a delay in implementation of federal surface mine regulations and price advantages resulting from a current oversupply of coal.
