“That’s negotiable,” returned the Centel representative.
“1 think you can tell everybody that we’d be pretty easy to get along with if you extend that free phone to the fire department,” said Miller.
Miller asked what towns had recently renewed their franchise with Centel, and then requested a copy of the new Richmond franchise to be sent to the council for examination. A franchise is normally renewed for 30 years, though there was mention of 25 years as a possibility.
A copy of the franchise will be sent at a later date to Rappahannock News for publication.
Councilman Brad Fisher then brought up the Fire Department’s request for a bingo permit. Fisher explained that a new state ordinance requires that anyone who runs bingo has to have a permit. If the Fire Department wishes to set up bingo, they must have a permit. It was asked where the game would be played, to which Council woman Dorothy Hawkins replied, “At the fire hall, I guess.” However, some doubt was voiced as to whether or not they could use a public building. i
