“Personally, 1 think not," Mrs. Massie responded, adding that the Superintendent should only do so if he felt “ill at ease” with the organization asking for the school use.
‘‘Then 1 suggest the Superintendent handle it administratively...in keeping with Mr. Eastham’s earlier resolution," Eldred said. He also proposed that fees for school use be reevaluated to reflect increased energy costs.
Student Insurance
The board tabled a decision on student insurance policies until the August meeting. In addition to Pilot Life, the company that carried school insurance last year, Bloomer reported bids from James J. J. Kelly ol Annandale and Scholastic Insurers of Tennessee. All three companies offered inschool coverage lor students at annual premiums of $4.30 on an individual basis.
Bloomer added that Scholastic Insurers also provided a group plan to insure the entire student body for an annual premium of $2.10 per pupil.
He noted that adoption of the group plan, with premiums paid by the School Board rather than the individuals. would eliminate bookkeeping work for teachers.
Eldred attributed the 40 to 45 percent participation rate bv students in last year’s insurance plan to the fact that parents often had coverage already through their jobs. Double coverage,
