The idea of SSI is to provide monthly checks when they are needed so that eligible people can have a basic cash income—$208.20 for one person and $312.30 for a married couple. This does not mean that every eligible gets this much in his or her SSI check every month. Some people get less because they have other income and some get more because they live in a state that adds money to the federal payment.
