Food Stamp regulations are being changed Jan. 1 to provide increases in maximum coupon allotments, and increases in deductions for certain households with elderly or disabled members.
Under the new guidelines, two special deductions will be given to households with members who are 60 years of age or older, or are recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, or receive Social Security Administration (SSA) disability benefits.
First, these households will be allowed to deduct medical and dental expenses that exceed $35 a month. This includes doctor and dentist bills. drug expenses, hospitalization premiums and medical transportation expenses.
