chance meeting arranged by family friends. Home for Thanksgiving in Bethesda during a break in his last year of law school, he was introduced to Col. Biddle by neighbors. “I hear you’re looking for work. Does working out in the country appeal to you?” Mike recalled Col. Biddle asking.
”1 drove through Rappahannock on my way back to school at the end of vacation and decided it would suit me fine," Mike said. He was impressed by the chance Biddle offered to have client contact right away. “In large firms, a new lawyer will spend the first couple of years researching stuff in the firm library. You'd have to be lucky to get into court at all.”
He also liked the opportunity for involvement in serveral different areas of law. “I’m not all that interested in specializing. I don't think you can around here—it's not like the big city where you’re part of a small department in a huge firm and handle only divorces or estate planning or litigation. In a big firm, one lawyer will do all the substantive work and another will take the case to court. You’re either a litigator or you're not. This way, 1 can do both and see a
thing all the way through," Mike explained.
