The Rappahannock varsity Panthers lost a close one at home to the Luray Bulldogs last Friday night, 65-57. During the first half, the teams traded baskets back and forth with neither holding the lead for more than a minute at a time.
The game looked hopeful for the Panthers when guard Tony Wayland hit a ^ialfcourt shot at the final second of the first half to send RCHS to the locker room only six points down, 39-33.
Luray came out at the buzzer determined, however, and after two minutes, built up a lead that Rappahannock could never cut to less than four during the rest of the game.
Center Gary Leake had another outstanding performance with 23 points and 1 1 rebounds, both game highs. The Panthers also led as a team in rebounding with 30 to Luray’s 21.
The loss leaves the Panthers 1-3 overall and 0-3 in Skyline District Competition.
