"The exposure was there but no new cases outside of Wakefield have been reported,” Einarson said.
He noted that private physicians are required to notify the local health department of any measles patients they treat. In addition, information on suspected cases is relaxed to the health department by the schools, both private and public.
Contacted on Monday, Rappahannock County High School administrators said that as far as they know, there have been no absences due to measles.
As a result of cases at Wakefield, the health department is scheduling special clinics to raise immunization levels. Inoculation clinics have already been held at Culpeper and Rappahannock high schools and are scheduled for Orange and Fauquier schools next week, according to Einarson. In addition, he noted that clinics have been held in Garke, Frederick and Prince William counties.
The health department director emphasized that high school aged youngsters should be reimmunized for measles since evidence shows that vaccine administered prior to 1970 may not give complete immunity.
