REQUEST FOR DESIGN PROPOSAL
The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors is requesting design and working drawings on an exterior Are escape to be installed on the Courthouse, Washington, Virginia. The exterior stairway may be constructed of wood and must conform to the following requirements:
1. Stairs 36 inches wide between rails.
2. Risers no higher than 7% inches.
3. Treads at least 9 inches wide, exclusive off nosing.
4. Balconies and stairs shall have guard railings at least 4* high without any openings greater than 8 inches in width, except triple guard rails equally spaced, with top rail not less than 3V4 feet high may be used.
5. Live load off 100 pounds per square foot or loads off 300 pounds spaced 3 feet center to center, each bearing on an area one foot by the depth off the tread, which ever will produce the greater stress.
6. Landing be provided for every 12 vertical feet the stairway rises. Two copies of drawings should be submitted to the Clerk’s Office, Washington, Virginia 22747 on or before November 14, 1980. Before a design and drawings are accepted by the Board of Supervisors they will be submitted to the State Fire Marshal for review.
