In addition, Bloomer said, bus drivers are concerned over possible liability on their part if a student is injured while walking along the side of the road to a consolidated stop. He also reported that bus drivers were finding problems with fighting and discipline on the buses as a result of consolidation.
He acknowledged, however, that the drivers’ concern over potential liability was unwarranted. "My opinion is that they’re not liable (if a child is injured while walking) but it’s an idea that they have,” he said.
According to Bloomer, parents also object to the elimination of route extensions where buses leave the main road to travel down and back a side lane.
