Questioned
To the editor:
I was amazed and distrubed to see the ad on behalf of President Carter, (in last week’s Rappahannock News) signed by the treasurer of the local Democratic Committee.
Section 431 of the newly revised Federal Election Laws strictly prhibits the local political committees from doing any type of advertising containing the name of the presidential candidate, whether in the newspapers, radio or television.
The irony of this violation is that the Federal Election Laws were passed by a Congress controlled by the Democrats and signed into law by President Carter, himself.
The Republican Party in Virginia, and Rappahannock County in particular, has been very careful to abide by this hew law and not use the names of Reagan, Bush or Congressman Robinson in
afe^ of its paid political advertising.
Any ad using the name of the candidate must be signed by the Reagan-Bush Campaign Committee, or CarterMondale Campaign Committee and charged to that committee’s allowed expenses.’The local committees may not use their own disclaimer.
Four years ago .the Democrats violated another Federal law by placing campaign materials in rural mailboxes throughout the county and affixing posters and bumper stickers on highway signs and utility poles.
If the Democrats are going to elect people who pass these laws, then they should certainly be willing to abide by them. FRANCES (TINY) CARNEY

Return Sheets
To the editor:
Now that HMS Pinafore is off Land’s End I should not still have free sheets to return. But our record keeping has failed into qnconnected instances: I somehow, and most regrettably, failed to acknowledge my gratitude to my First construction assistant, Franklin Hume, and to store mentally the name of a generous lender of three sheets (two king flat and one queen flat) for Pinafore’s wings. Will the owner please call 675-3283 and save my tormented memory?
