A few years later, a lady with an old chair out of a mobile home in the back of her pick-up truck stopped by the store. “She was going to take the chair to the dump so I said to leave it on my porch,” Edna recalled.
A few days later, she had the chair sitting in the back of the store as she tackled it with hammer, pins and new fabric when the woman stopped back again. “I was going to make it my chair but she asked if she could buy it back. I told her she could have it for just what I had into it—$28,” Edna recalled. Another career was launched.
Refinishing outside during the summer months and upholstering in the winter time at the back of the store, Edna has attracted a regular clientele. Her business has built up with nt' advertising but the best—word of mouth. Customers in McLean learned of her talents through a first cousin’s neighbor who had a few pieces done.
Locally, the news has spread between friends who’ve admired her work in each other’s homes. Nancy Rothrock dubbed her three reupholstered and refinished rooms “Edna’s rooms,” according to Mrs. Mills.
