Warner Named
“Watchdog”
Virginia Sen. John W. Warner has been named a “Watchdog of the Treasury” by National Associated Businessmen, Inc. (NAB), for consistently “voting against unnecessary federal spending” during the two sessions of the %th Congress.
Warner was among only 10 senators of the Senate’s 100 members to score a perfect 100-per cent rating in the NAB’s “Economy Voting Record” (EVR), an index of congressional attitudes toward economy in government as indicated by key votes on spending and budget-cutting legislation.
Sen. Harry F. Byrd, Jr., of Virginia also was one of the NAB’s “100-per centers." For Byrd, in the Senate since 1965, it was his eighth "Watchdog of the Treasury” award.
The award was the first for Warner, just completing his first two years in the Senate. Warner also finished the 96th Congress, with the exception of a “lame duck” session to be held after election Day, without missing a single rollcall vote.
