The hillsides near Red Oak Mountain bristled with Secret Service agents on Sunday as President Ronald Reagan flew in from the White House to have lunch with conservative columnist James J. Kilpatrick and his wife', Marie Petri.
As part of extraordinary security arrangements, a decoy helicopter complete with presidential seal landed first, followed a few. minutes later by a second helicopter carrying the President’s party.
As Reagan and the first lady alighted, a limousine kept pace with the couple while they walked from the helicopter to the Kilpatricks’ house just over the hill. The vehicle effectively blocked Reagan from view by the Washington press, including camera crews from network news, much to the chagrin of media representatives who had made the long Sunday drive out from D.
