Curtis Nichols, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nichols of Flint Fill, escaped injury last week when a jet crashed into the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.
Nichols, a first class midshipman at Virginia Military Academy, joined the Nimitz at Norfolk on May 13 for a summer training cruise to the Caribbean which will last until June 12.
The training exercise was halted abruptly just before midnight on Tuesday, May 26, when a Marine EA-6B Prowler landed off center and smashed through rows of parked planes, killing 14 men and injuring 48.
