A trip to the mountains would fit in very well with a visit to historic Winchester and the Frederick Farm Market. There will be plenty of picnic spaces as well as the opportunity to pick snap beans. Or you can take advantage of fresh picked peas, lima beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupes, sweet corn, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, peaches and pumpkins. For dates and directions call (703) 667-1743.
Rick and Van’s in Fredericksburg will have squash, beets, peas, string beans, cabbage and tomatoes to pick and corn, cantaloupes, watermelons and other vegetables already picked. Either Rick or Van are available to tell you when and how much at (703) 7757890.
Loudoun County has two very extensive pick-your-own operations: Cochran’s Vegetable Farm in Lincoln, and Wheatland Vegetable Farm in Purcellville. Both markets offer almost all garden vegetables and Wheatland has unsprayed vegetables. Call them at (703) 882-39%, or Cochran’s at (703) 338-7002 or 338-7428,.
