Bid On County Funds
Dr. Werner Krebser led off speakers at the public hearing with a proposal that the supervisors solicit bids from banks interested in handling county funds. He noted that between MOO,000 and $500,000 is currently deposited in Rappahannock National Bank, earning interest of approximately 14 to 15 per cent. At present, treasury bills earn between 16 and 17 per cent, according to Krebser.
“I think when we’re short of money, especially when $6,000 for architectural fees is cut from the school budget...the county should change the procedure of how its money is given to the bank to use. We should get the best return possible and we can’t do that without competitive bidding,” he maintained.
Both Robert Eastham, school board member, and Herbert Foster, former chairman of the county supervisors, agreed with Krebser’s suggestion.
Addressing himself to the budget, Krebser criticized cuts which he maintained will result in further delays on the capital improvements program for the county high school. “The longer we dalay, the more it will cost,” he said, pointing out that construction costs are climbing by 15-20 per cent

Meeting Change
The June meeting of the Rappahannock County School Board will be held on Tuesday, June 16, instead of the second Tuesday of the month, as regularly scheduled.
In addition, the board will continue to begin meetings at 7:30 p.m. despite the change to daylight savings time.
