passenger vehicle registered in Virginia may reserve CommuniPlates for an annual fee of S10 in addition to regular registration fees. The fee is calculated from the date the plates are reserved, net the date they are issued.
Motorists don’t have to wait until their license plates expire before they apply for the special combinations. The reservation fee will be prorated according to the number of full months left in the registration period.
For example, if your registration expires in January, and you reserve a set of CommuniPlates May 26, you would pay $6.67 to reserve that combination from May until the end of January. In. January, you would renew your .vehicle registration and pay an additional $10 fee to keep your Communi-Plates for 12 more months.
