Charles S. “Chuck” Robb will be the new governor of Virginia, the first Democrat to hold that office in more than a decade.
Despite a personal endorsement for his opponent from President Reagan, Robb scored an overwhelming victory in’ Tuesday’s election over Republican attorney general Marshall Coleman. With 1,875 of Virginia’s 1,909 precincts reporting, the tally was 753,637 votes (53.7; percent) for Robb and 648,226 (46.2 percent) for Coleman.
