Notoe Ordinance
Discussion on a proposed noise ordinance was continued until a special meeting of the board set for Thursday, November 5, at 10 a.m. in the court house.
The ordinance has been requested repeatedly by Washington resident Claybert Smoot who has appeared time and again before the supervisors over the past five years to complain about activities at the community center next door to his house.
At Smoot’s urging, former supervisor chairman E. P. Luke wrote a letter dated June 29 to Ethel Bailey, secretary of the Rappahannock Citizen’s League, owners of the community center. In the letter, he alleged that the center was creating a nuisance and disturbing the peace and quiet of the neighborhood and warned that the supervisors would consider adopting an ordinance if the noise continued.
