(None of the other property owners in the vicinity of the community center have appeared at the supervisor meetings over the past five years to support Smoot’s complaints.) “Has there been anything done about a noise meter? asked Latham. Sheriff W. A. Buntin answered that the purchase of a device to measure noise levels has been discussed but never acted upon. Clerk Diane Bruce pointed out that a consent order signed last may by circuit court judge Shore Robertson ■'Yti' a settlement of the Vepel tugle 'between the county, local landowners and the Nationwide Penecostal Evangelistic Association required the county to obtain sound measuring equipment necessary to monitor noise levels. No such equipment has been purchased, however.
Since Smoot’s complaints began, Rachel Aylor reported, she and Mrs. Bailey have regularly checked the center on weekends to make sure the noise was kept down. She added that they’d questioned the other neighbors and found no complaints. If the harassment doesn’t stop, Mrs. Aylor warned, the Rappahannock Citizen’s League may have to look into ways of protecting itself from Smoot’s complaints.
