Lawrence Elmo Johnson, 87. of Sperryville died Monday, February 8, 1982, at Shenandoah Count) Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday (today) at 2 p.m. at Thornton Gap Regular Baptist Church near Sperryville by the Rev. Kirby Shenk. Burial will be in Sperryville Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was a retired merchant and farmer. A native of Rappahannock County, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Mary Shenk Johnson. His wife was the late Eve Beahm Johnson.
He was a World War I veteran, serving in France, and was a member of Thornton Gap Church and the American Legion.
Survivors include three sons, James R. Johnson of Luray, Carson B. Johnson of Sperryville and Allen D. Johnson of New Market; four daughters. Mrs. Dorothy Rector of Orlean, Mrs. Kate Partlow and Mrs. Mary E. Clatterbuck, both of Arlington, and Miss Louise Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Thornton Gap Regular Baptist Church.
