walk-ins tne ladies expected. But more than 100 extra people showed up, taking every last piece of drumstick,
thigh and breast and requiring last minute substitutions in the menus as the ladies rushed to local groceries to buy peas to supplement the advertised green beans. After all that time in the kitchen, there wasn’t even enough left over to feed the cooks. The members of the auxiliary have expressed appreciation to all those who helped with the dinner through donations or volunteer labor. In addition, they offer apologies to anyone who had to wait or had to settle for peas instead of green beans.
“We hope they understand and that they’ll come back and eat with us again,” Mrs. Leake said.
The auxiliary, formed just last spring, plans to hold another dinner in April, this time buffet style with enough country ham on hand to feed an army.
The ladies are raising money to make improvements in the fire hall kitchen and intend then to schedule regular monthly dinners as fund raisers for the department.

Lou Ellen Thornhill has been named to the Dean’s list at Germanna Community College for the fall quarter. She achieved a grade point average of 4.0.
She is a 1981 graduate of Rappahannock County High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Thornhill of Boston.
