During the holiday period when traveling on turnpikes, expressways or interstate highways, VDTS urges drivers to take these safety precautions:
Keep a full gas tank and check tires. Before starting study a map and locate the correct exits.
Secure properly all passengers in appropriate safety belts and child safety seats as an effective protection against possible injury or death. Safety belts can help drivers better control their vehicle during a crash by keeping them secured behind the steering vheel. Don’t mix drinking and driving. Remember, it takes time to sober up. Enter an expressway by accelerating quickly to blend into existing traffic speed. Never stop or back up if an exit is missed. Go on to the next. In emergencies drive as far onto the right highway shoulder as possible. Never slow down suddenly on the highway. Keep up with the traffic flow and be sure tostay within the 55 mptf speed limit.
